Go and Do the Same

The Good Samaritan. It is probably a story you have heard before … but listen to it a bit closer this time.

Jesus replied and said, “a man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among robbers, and they stripped him and beat him, and went away leaving him half dead. And by chance a priest was going down on that road, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. Likewise a Levite also, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, who was on a journey, came upon him; and when he saw him, he felt compassion, and came to him and bandaged up his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them; and he put him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn and took care of him. On the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said, ‘take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I return I will repay you.’ Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the robbers’ hands?” And He said, “the one who showed mercy toward him.” Then Jesus said to him, “go and do the same.”

Luke 10:30-37

This is a story, a parable, a tale that Jesus told, to make a point. He shared about a moment that very well could have happened “back then” … and if you look closely, it happens each and every day in your own life. Someone is in need and someone helps. Someone helps and a life is changed.

There were lots of folks impacted in this story … the person in need who was beat up by robbers, the priest and Levite who passed by, the Samaritan that stopped and helped, and the folks that were listening to the story. Each person was impacted in their own way by a simple lesson and/or experience with Jesus.

When those listening to the story realized what mercy the Samaritan had showed, Jesus answered with one command … “Go and do the same.”

Jesus wants us to experience Him through His Word and through everyday experiences … but He doesn’t want it to stop there. He asks us to take it one step further.

Go and do the same.

He has so many lessons to teach you each day … each season … each moment. And with the lessons and experiences He gives you, He wants you to keep it going.

Go and do the same.

It’s pretty cool to think that the lessons and experiences that the Lord gives You can in turn impact someone else for Him.

What in the past week have you seen God do for you that you could do for someone else?
