The Same Mindset of Jesus

“In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to His own advantage; rather, He made Himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.

And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to death – even death on a cross!

Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Philippians 2:5-11

There is no one more devoted than Jesus.  No one.  I imagine very few of us will have the opportunity to be devoted to the point of death.

But what if the love and devotion He showed to us on the cross is what we keep our eyes fixed on?  What if His example is what we hold in our hearts and minds?  What if that very thing He did for us is what helps us make the simple decisions of every day life? I imagine we would live quite differently.

What Jesus did was HUGE. He died for us. It seems impossible that we can ever do ANYTHING to live up to that grand gesture. That’s where we go wrong … trying to DO ANYTHING . Read the first few words again of Philippians 2:5. In your relationships … have the same mindset of Christ Jesus. There is not a long list of what to do, just a gentle reminder of what to have. Have the same thinking (point of view, outlook, belief, character) of Jesus.  Phew. That seems a lot less daunting and much more tangible.

  • When do you find it hardest to want to be like Jesus?

  • Tell of a time that you were able to love like Jesus?  What happened?  How did you feel?  (it’s okay, it’s not bragging on you, it’s bragging on Jesus!)
